E-mail, contacts & calendar management are key in today's electronic
age. Imagine if your e-mail went down for just an hour ... the impact of
that alone to your business could be huge, not to mention the
inconvenience of having no access to your contacts, daily schedule etc.
Without e-mail, it's not only the inability for internal staff to
send messages that's important. What about external contacts, existing
& potentially new customers who's messages simply don't arrive or
get bounced back ?
Microsoft Exchange is one of the forerunners in providing this
technology, combining traditional mail services with additional features
& security. Ensuring this technology is working well with no
potential issues on the horizon is therefore key to many businesses, big
or small.
Achieving this, especially in a 24 x 7 world can be difficult, time
consuming and ultimately expensive with many organisations employing
entire teams to manage ths system. But not when you automate
monitoring using the Sentry-go Quick Exchange Server monitor.
Here's how (click an item for more information) ...

The Sentry-go Quick Exchange Server Monitor allows you to perform the
following essential monitoring tasks on your Microsoft Exchange Server automatically ...
- Monitor
Exchange Server
services. Microsoft Exchange is made up of a number of separate
Windows services. Depending on your environment, some or all of
these must remain running to ensure correct e-mail, calendar &
security (anti-spam) operation. Should any of them fail,
the monitor can restart them automatically, thus minimising downtime
or notify you as required.
- Monitor
e-mails can be sent & received. The ultimate way of
verifying all components of your e-mail environment are running
correctly is to send an e-mail & check it arrives. With the
Quick Monitor, you can do just that! Simply tell it how you
typically send & receive e-mails (e.g. SMTP & POP3) and the
monitor will peridoically check that a test message can be sent and
is received in the mailbox within a given time.

On top of this, the Quick Monitor provides a number of other checks,
straight out of the box at no extra cost. These are often recommended when monitoring
Exchange Server machines ...
- Monitor
Other Windows services. In addition to Exchange itself, you may also wish
to monitor other services running on the server - e.g. auto-start
services, COM+, MSDTC etc.
- Monitor
Exchange & Server
Performance. The monitor comes
pre-configured with settings that help ensure that key performance parameters are within expected limits - e.g. no.
open connections, delivery failures etc. These can be further enhanced with other hardware & software counters,
depending on your server's configuration.
- Monitor errors written to the Windows Event
Log. Microsoft Exchange, Windows itself and other systems often
write their errors to the local Event Log. Checking these regularly
can help warn of upcoming issues and allow you to prevent them
before they occur, but monitoring even a couple of servers manually
is extremely timeconsuming. The Quick Monitor can check
& report on these automatically as they're written, based on event ID, message text etc.
- Exchange
& Other Log Files. In addition to the Event Log, Microsoft
Exchange, like other applications also writes its own data to
text-based log files. As with Event Logs, the Quick Monitor can
watch these and report any issues tha arise based on
keywords/phrases etc.
- Available disk
space. To run efficiently, your Windows server as
well as Exchange Server itself need plenty of free disk space. Using the
Sentry-go Quick Monitor you can automatically ensure free space is
available, automatically clearing down temporary files & warning
you to the issue if this free space becomes more limited.
